We are offering... A beautiful 19th century solid silver rose water sprinkler from the Middle East, dating back to approximately the 1890s. The antique silver is repoussé with floral motifs and filigree patterns. The top of the piece is decorated with coral beads and sterling flowers. The neck of the sprinkle unscrews completely to fill the main basin with rose water. The custom of sprinkling guests with rosewater originated in the Middle East. This practice was adopted by Hindu and Muslin courts and later by Wealthy Europeans in India. Rosewater is made from steeping rosewater petals in water. It’s called the Flower of Prophet Muhammad because its pleasant smell reminds people of the prophet Muhammad. Rosewater is also used in religious ceremonies, and to welcome guests in the home.
